Spectacular Yards !

The Villages of Shady Hollow Home Owners Association is happy to announce a Spectacular Yard contest to promote the beautification of the neighborhood and to recognize neighbors who have well maintained lawns and homes. The contest aims to recognize neighbors who have demonstrated extra effort in maintaining their property, thereby contributing the overall appearance of the neighborhood.

The contest will run for 6 months from April through September with a winner selected during the first week of each month. Each month’s winner will receive a decorative yard sign for display indicating their winning yard, a picture of their yard in the VOSH website and a $30 gift certificate to Home Depot.

The month of September will be dedicated to yards that make the best of Xeriscape techniques.

The judging for the month of April has just started, the winner will be selected this coming Friday.

Spectacular Yard Winners

Spectacular Yard Contest Guidelines

• All Villages of Shady Hollow properties are automatically eligible.
• The upkeep of the yard can reflect the efforts of the residents themselves or that of a professional landscaper or groundskeeper.
• The same property cannot receive the Spectacular Yard award more than once a year, meaning at least 12 months must elapse between awards for the same yard.
• Participation in the contest is optional, in the event the winning homeowner does not wish to participate; the committee will select another yard.
• Spectacular Yard winners must be current with their Association dues.
• Winners may be disqualified if their property is in violation of any HOA covenants or ACC regulations.
• We recognize that the central Texas region is currently experiencing a severe drought; under no circumstances should any resident violate the City of Austin water rationing restrictions.
• The judges plan to begin reviewing the yards on the first day of each month, and the winner will be awarded by the seventh day of the month.

Judging Criteria

• Judging will be based on the front and side yards only.
• Overall maintenance and cleanliness is paramount.
• Lawns should be healthy, no weeds. The lawn should be mowed and edged.
• Beds should be cleaned and maintained, edged, no weeds, dead plants removed, trees and shrubs pruned.
• Planting should be in scale with the surroundings.
• Driveways and walkway should be clean, no debris.
• The street area in front of the curb should be clean and free from debris.
